Journals are where artists hone their skills and practice with new mediums. For both the 2D and 3D artist, a journal is a place for research and for personal reflections. The goal is for each artist to begin to create a personal voice. The difference between a 2D and 3D journal is a 3D journal should have more emphasis on research and planning than on drawing and painting techniques. Both types of journals should explore principles of design.

What is a Visual Verbal Journal?
This journaling power point covers what a VVJ is, what goes into it, how it is graded, how it helps all artists, and some student examples.
This is Dana's 19th year teaching art, and now film. Currently she is teaching at Riverwood International Charter High School.
