Journals are where artists hone their skills and practice with new mediums. For both the 2D and 3D artist, a journal is a place for research and for personal reflections. The goal is for each artist to begin to create a personal voice. The difference between a 2D and 3D journal is a 3D journal should have more emphasis on research and planning than on drawing and painting techniques. Both types of journals should explore principles of design.

Some ideas she gave for new journaling ideas include: Use old elementary school journals and have HS students build on their own past; alter graphic novels; create teacher led pages on different media techniques
